What types of Liquor Licenses are available in Mackinac County

Class C Tavern Liquor License –Allowing beer and wine to be sold on the premises.

Class C Liquor License – This license permits for customers to purchase beer, wine, and spirits (e.g. vodka, tequila, and whiskey) on premises. This license allows restaurants and bars to sell alcohol without needing a seating or food requirement.

Class C Resort License – This license allows for customers to purchase beer, wine, and spirits (e.g. vodka, tequila, and whiskey) on premises. It permits restaurants and bars to sell liquor without a seating or food requirement. In order to obtain a Class C Resort license your location must have more than 100 seats and a full restaurant menu. The transfer of the first 550 Class C resort licenses can be done to any location in the state. You can still get a Class C Resort license directly from the State.

Specially Designated Distributor Liquor License (SDD) –  Customers are able to purchase beer, wine, and spirits in their original packaging for consumption away from the licensed location.

Specially Designated Merchant License (SDM) – Customers may purchase wine and beer in their original packages for consumption away from the licensed location.

Steps to getting a Mackinac County Liquor License

  1. Select a location: In order to get a liquor license in Michigan, you will first need to have a signed Letter of Intent or a lease/deed that verifies you have the right to the premises.

  2. Determine if the license you require must be purchased or if it can be obtained directly from the state.If the license must be bought you will be required to open an escrow and run the transaction must go via it.

  3. Send your license application to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC).

  4. Receive your letter of deficiency and send back the requested documents.

  5. Investigation of the premises by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC).

  6. Interview with your license investigator.

  7. The Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) will be mailing you a liquor license.
